Today I found two kittens lying in the grass, crying like crazy, all rained on and full of mud, cold... They're around one month each.. And apparently their mother got hit by a car and died... So I took them in and they are now in a cozy fur filled box. I need to find out more about how to take care of them and what I should do.. If any of you know, please tell me.. Thank you in advance.

I figure somebody already said this, but they have kitten milk at stores and stuff, its full of supplements that they cant get from regular milk and foods.

By a month old they should be able to start munching on some food, although getting some formula milk from your local pet shop might not be a bad idea. Get a shallow box and fill it with dirt - as long as they can dig there, they will poop there. I have nine kittens at the moment. (:

Human baby food (chicken or turkey) with a small amount of water mixed together works great.

I might be a late responder to this but better late then never. I am sure most everyone has already said the same thing about the milk but really at 1 month old, they should be fine being off of special formulated cat milk. They can be started on some dry food (has to be wetted down with water to be softened or else it will break their little teeth) and some wet food, also they can be drinking water at this age. Cats mature fast so depending on how old they are and if they hit all their kitten developmental marks (like all eyes open, walking normally on their own, ears up, etc..) can they be started on basic cat routines. Getting them so young is great because not only can you establish a bond with them, but a lot of behavior issues can be dealt with early on (scratching, temperament). IF you are having trouble getting them used to using a litter box, they make a special kind of cat litter called, "Kitten Attract", it has a special formula that usually makes a cat want to do their business in the box rather than carpet. Get them used to human touch and being held, also be wary that kittens are very mischievous and all cats love high places. Kittens are primarily in their "learning to hunt" age so they tend to play rough and like to pounce on people and objects and definitely using their claws and teeth. I know the teeth and claws can be painful at times but if they get too rough, say one kind of loud and sharp NO, then stop play time; when they have calmed down then go back to playing. They will eventually learn if that keeps happening.
Make sure they get their boosters and to be dewormed and when old enough (4 months +) please get them spayed/neutered-that will increase their chances of getting adopted. IF you are using a medicated bath soap to rid them of fleas, be sure to read the directions because some of those medicated bath soaps and shampoos are very toxic to young kittens except for in small amounts.
If you have any more questions or concerns, feel free to ask, I have fostered lots of cats ranging in ages though I tend to stick with kittens 5 weeks +, you can ask me anything on adoption preparations and training methods, plus normal behavior signs of kittens if they seem to be acting weird or not.
Sorry if it feels as if I am talking down to you as if you don't know anything, I am writing everything based on the assumption that you have experience with either only older cats or no prior cat experience, that just helps make sure that no information is left out. =^.^=
Good luck to you new kitten owner, I can tell that they are in safe hands and very glad that you decided to take them in.

163 Comments! Sounds like you got tons of great advice so far - if no one else has mentioned this - I don't know where you live but in my neck of the woods we have feed stores, they also would have the proper formula and it's usually cheaper than the pet stores.

there's a brand of kitten milk called 'Lactol', i don't know whether you'll be able to get it where you are though D'x

good luck! asking a vet would be the best thing, but make sure they're hydrated for tonight
put a tiny bit of salt, and sugar into warm water and syringe them that, it's better than nothing

All you need to do is go buy some food for them and put some water out. Don't feed them milk. Get a litter box and make sure you clean it at least every 2 days. And play with them. Give them lots of love. And if they are that young take them to the vet for shots and tests.

and just keep them nice and warm.

Do everything you can to keep them warm, pick up some kitten formula, and make sure their space is free of bacteria because they're really susceptible to diseases at this age. Cow milk will make them very sick, so don't do that [pretty sure 4896746450987 people have said that though.] Also, keep a close eye on them and establish a bond :3 Make them feel safe and welcome with you.

Well, first off, you should get them to the vet so they can check their health.

After that, you could go to a petstore and ask them what you need to do. You can get milk that has the right nutrients for kittens and you can probably get feeding bottles, too.

Once they get older, wean them onto wet food and then slowly onto dry food. If you're gong to permanently take them into your care, you're a wonderful person. <3
